Abstract:

Current excitement about artificial intelligence is largely due to the surprising effectiveness of deep learning with artificial neural networks. These models are particularly well-suited for high-dimensional data including video, time-series, and graphs. I will discuss the ways in which my group is applying deep learning to the physical sciences, including oceanography, atmospheric sciences, and climate models.

Bio:

Peter Sadowski is an Assistant Professor of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúÍøÕ¾i Manoa. He completed his Ph.D. and Postdoc at University of California Irvine, and his underºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúÍøÕ¾uate studies at Caltech. His research focuses on deep learning and its applications to the natural sciences, particularly those at the intersection of machine learning and physics. Webpage: www2.hawaii.edu/~psadow
