Data Workshop: Using IPUMS Data in R

This hands-on workshop introduces the (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series) data collections, which provide integrated census and survey data from around the world. After a brief overview of all IPUMS collections, we'll dive into to learn the data workflow. What you will learn:
- Data Extraction: How to select and extract data in both standard CSV and the specialized DAT file/ (Data Documentation Initiative) metadata format, and how to decompress the extracts.
- Data Import to R: How to read the data into R using both standard functions and the specialized ipumsr package.
- R Coding for processing: Essential R coding basics for preparing and analyzing harmonized census and survey datasets.
Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in U.S. census and survey data, historical data, or cross-national comparisons. No prior knowledge of the R language is required.
Software Required: Please on your laptop before attending the workshop.
