December 2, 3:30pm - 5:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Hamilton Library 306 or Zoom

Kickstart your coding journey with our focused 90-minute Python workshop! Designed for absolute beginners, this session will swiftly introduce you to the core foundations of Python programming. In this fast-paced introduction, we'll focus on the essentials you need to write your very first lines of code:

  • Environment Setup: We'll get you set up to code quickly using Jupyter Notebook (via Anaconda or Google Colab).
  • Core Concepts: You'll learn about variables and the fundamental data types (like numbers and text/strings) that Python uses to store information.
  • Basic Operations: We'll cover simple operators and how to run basic expressions to perform calculations and print results.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have a running Python environment and the confidence to write simple, foundational code. It's the perfect, low-commitment starting point to explore the world of coding!

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in learning to code in Python! No prior programming knowledge is required. Just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm.

Software Required: Please on your laptop before the workshop. If installation is not possible, we will use Google Colab (requires a personal Google account).

Registration: This event is HYBRID. You may attend either in-person or via Zoom. Register or at https://go.hawaii.edu/PXm. Contact Hejin Shin at hejins@hawaii.edu.
